Blu by Catherine Barolo

ARTIST NOTES: Let me introduce you to Blu! He’s a hyacinth macaw and the first one Ive painted, but I’ve wanted to paint him for quite a while…. He was inspired from the Disney movie RIO that I watched so many times when my children were little! Blue is the main character, a hyacinth macaw and his story is one that resonates with me. As a baby he falls from his nest in the Amazon and is poached then smuggled to America where he falls off the back of a truck and a young girl finds him and takes him home. He becomes so demotivated with human life he becomes very timid and losing his spirit of being a free spirited macaw! Many years pass and Blu is made to go back to his homeland Brazil and finds himself back in the Amazon with his own kind but lacks the ability to fly and get in touch with his natural roots. With all this said, Blu does did beep and mange’s to overcome hails life’s drawbacks and rise above gaining respect love and flight…. Painting Blu has shown me anything is possible and the obstacles I face can be overcome. I have painted Blu on a 3cm thick Double thick high density weave canvas in acrylics and varnished. I have signed and dated the back and handwritten a message about this painting too.

ARTIST BIO

Catherine Barolo is a self taught artist living in Melbourne, Australia.

Catherine has been drawing and painting ever since she was little.  A quiet child who would draw for hours and hours escaping life in the 1970's suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia.  Her paintings and stories were full of fairies, goblins and all types of animals, flowers and mythical creatures she would make up from her fantasy world she loved and imagined until....life happened!

Fast forward to 2021 and Catherine is happily married with 4 almost grown children and her dog Coco.  It has only been in the last couple of years since turning 50yrs young, Catherine has found time to concentrate on her art.  2020 had been an exceptional year to say the least.

Catherine and her family traveled for their first family holiday to Europe at the end of 2019 and the start of 2020.  Seeing for the first time with her own eyes artworks of the masters in France, Italy and London, she was inspired.

Also happening while on her trip to the other side of the world at home the Australian wildfires were the top news stories around the world.  Catherine was deeply saddened by not just the loss of human life but the millions of wildlife and fauna that was destroyed'

"our country was burning and millions of Australian indigenous wildlife perished..."

On Catherine's return in February 2020 she got to work and painted her first series of 6 paintings

"From the Dark there's Always a New Beginning"

By March 2020 Catherine's original paintings started selling...

As the world locked down due to Covid-19 Catherine started painting better than ever and her love for all wildlife is captured in each of her paintings all with their own story to tell.  Catherine either works off her own photos or she asks photographers permission to use their photos as reference.  Catherine loves to paint in acrylic the best.   Each painting is carefully thought and planned out, subject, colour and composition to tell its unique story all in as much detail as she can.

2021 and  Catherine still waits for restrictions ease to show her work in public as No photo truly shows how amazing these painting are. But she does not stop her paintings get better with each one and her determination is starting to show as she has sold many original paintings and limited edition fine art prints this year not just nationally but Internationally too...
